“I marvel at the fact that Senator George Mitchell – a figure of such enormous international importance – continues to dedicate himself to the young people of Maine. The scholarship program he created has afforded 1,800 ordinary Maine students a chance to go on to college. As an active member of the Bangor business community, I feel very strongly that we, too, must step up and be there for our youth – to show them we value them and to help them achieve their goals. The Mitchell Scholars I have met are hard working and deserving young people who are destined to do great things for themselves, our state, our communities, and our economy. All they need is a fair chance.
